What is the Family Office and Investors Database?
The Opalesque Solutions Family Office and Investors Database (FOIDB) is a community-driven directory of more than 10,000 industry professionals globally that work in, with, or invest in hedge funds and other alternative investments.

Where is the data coming from?
The FOIDB database is unique in that it features many "off the grid" professionals who are very difficult to locate. Many are people whom Opalesque founder Matthias Knab met personally over the years at global events. We also research public records and listings, like SEC and IRS records. Contacts are also entered and adjusted by other FOIDB subscribers. Subscribers or FOIDB trial users can add themselves as well to the database.
The FOIDB database does not include data of people who registered themselves on the Opalesque.com website (Opalesque Publications), as Opalesque.com clients are protected by a privacy agreement.

I am interested, how much does your database cost and what are the subscription options?
There is only one subscription option. Straight one year access to the database for $1500. At the end of the one year subscription term, there will be no automatic renewal, but the subscriber will be informed ahead of the nearing end date so that he can extend the access to the database. When extending the access, any subscription period can be chosen at that time. If the user opts not to extend his access, after the end of his paid subscription time he will not be able to access the database.

Are there free trials for the database or do you offer or money back guarantees?
We do not offer money back guarantees and there are free trial subscriptions or programs only for corporates(we do this solely to protect ourselves from other people mining our profile data).

How many profiles can I access with a subscription?
Subscribers to the Family Office and Investors Database can access up to 1000 profiles per month. Registrants and Subscribers are prohibited from using or running any automated system, including but not limited to "robots", "spiders", or "offline readers," that access the Website in a manner that sends more request messages to the Opalesque Solutions server(s) in a given period of time than a human can reasonably produce in the same period by using a conventional web browser. Notwithstanding the foregoing, Opalesque Solutions grants the operators of public search engines permission to use spiders to copy materials from the site for the sole purpose of and solely to the extent necessary for creating publicly available searchable indices of the materials. Opalesque Solutions reserves the right to revoke these exceptions either generally or in specific cases. When we detect an automated data harvesting system was used in the manner described above, you agree to a payment of the full yearly access fee for the FOIDB database and to immediately cease any misuse and adhere to our Terms and Conditions as laid out in the Fair Information Statement.

Who is processing your credit card transactions, and is this secure?
Since the start of our business (2003) Opalesque has been using Worldpay (owned by the Royal Bank of Scotland) as its credit card processor. Worldpay is a leading credit card processor with an outstanding security track record. Opalesque does not store, save or even see your credit card data, as all card data will be entered on a secure site operated by Worldpay.

If my subscription has ended, or after canceling my auto renewal I want to get access again, how do I re-subscribe to FOIDB?
Just logon to the FOIDB website, from which you will be redirected to the My Profile page. Here you can re-subscribe and chose annual subscription period to regain access to the database.

Are you offering a discount to subscribers of the Opalesque publications?
At the moment, the rates for the FOIDB are the same for everyone. However, whoever buys now has the low price locked in. Note that competing offers would cost you multiple times as much. We are adding data each month, and contrary to a lot of other offers you see that are often static, outdated excel files flying around the internet, the FOIDB is a dynamic and constantly evolving online database.

I just subscribed to your FOIDB database and think it's awesome. Can I download a spreadsheet of all the information?
The Family Office and Investors Database is an online directory. There is NO download feature, as this would invariably result in people passing on the data to others and spamming the database with mass mailings. If you are interested in mass mailings, we do offer select dedicated mailings (one per month) which is done through the Opalesque secure mail servers (contact knab@opalesque.com for more).

We created the FOIDB on purpose as an online database, as this ensures all users can access at all times the latest, updated information. The FOIDB database is not some Excel file with outdated information being forwarded or sold over the internet, but an online, central, real time collection of information.

Summing up, we keep our community online to prevent misuse in the form of reckless mining, copying or spamming of our contact information. We do offer a wide range of methods to view, sort, search and track the data. For example, every month our dedicated team adds and updates hundreds of new entries, which you can identify and track. You can search the database by all data fields and keep your information organized online through a Watchlist.

What kind of information is available in the database?
Most profiles of professionals have contact information including: Name, company name, organization type, job role, email address, phone number, address, and a description of the person.

How do I get access to samples of the site and its profiles?
There is a Samples section on the site where you can see sample profiles of our members, as well as the Watchlist which allows you the convenient ability to monitor members of interest. Sample Profile

Can I sort by Region/Country?
Yes, we provide searches by country and many other data fields.

If I sign up is my information safe and if I unsubscribe or opt-out of the site what happens to my info?
The information is hosted on a secure Opalesque server. Opalesque has been running since 2003 as a secure internet publisher.

When did the site launch?
The FOIDB beta version of the website successfully launched on April 09, 2013.

Can I upload information or change inaccurate information on profiles on the site?
If you are a member you can adjust incorrect information for your or other profiles. For other profiles, your adjustments are checked by our research team, and if the changes are accurate, they will be implemented in the database.

How do I organize my information and / or keep track of important hedge professionals?
We have added a Watchlist section to keep track of professionals on whom you are particularly focused. This convenient tool allows you to group your critical contacts in a coherent and/or organized way to monitor your contacts.

I would like to add my profile to the FOIDB database, but I am not sure I want to subscribe to the database at this point. How can I add my profile?
If you are involved in the hedge fund industry, you can register for free and update your profile to market yourself and your company to our global community. Our research team will check the data provided to ensure your information is accurate, and then your profile is permanently accepted. You can update information any time if there is a change in your profile information, such as job role, company, or contact information.

My profile is included in the FOIDB database. Can I opt-out from being listed there, and how?
We make sure the records get deleted if you opt out, this is reflected in our user agreement. You can email or call us to remove yourself from the database.

Does every member have the same level of information available?
Yes, there are no different levels of information, all profiles have the same fields of information.

Can I cancel a subscription to the Family Office and Investors Database?
No refunds: If you have ordered a one year access, this subscription type will simply expire at the end of your ordered period. No refunds available for our Database purchased.

Are answers to the registration form mandatory?
Yes we ask that all subscribers sign themselves into the database. We can always remove your information any time at your request, but we do this to create accountability with our users. To see who they are, that they are involved in, or on the periphery of alternative investments industry and ensure they are not "spammers" who will abuse our profiles.
